Year 1
Intensive 3D
This course is a short course designed to familiarise students with the Maya tools required to complete all aspects of the course.
Pre Production of Digital Media
This course will cover the pre production stages including story boarding, creating narratives and an
Animatic.
Visual Effects
This module is spent learning the workflow of visual effects artist. Special Affects, matt painting, blue screen editing and motion design are key elements.
Modelling
Students will cover how to use Autodesk Maya and Mudbox. The skills here will help students to understand in depth the tools and how to use it in a production workflow. Students will model a character using clay then translate this using digital sculpting.
Animation and Rigging
This module covers character animation including facial acting. Student s will learn about rigid and soft body rigging using it to develop character rigging. Blend shapes, mechanical rigging and expressions are all focused on.
Lighting, Texturing and Rendering
In this module students learn the workflow of a Lighting, Texturing and Rendering artists. Covering UV Mapping, Texturing, Mental ray, Maya software, Real life lighting, HDRI, Render Passes and Shading.
Introduction to Game Development
The game development industry is still young in comparison to other recent but established media such as film and TV. Designing meaningful experiences with this new media introduces complexities exclusive to video games, complexities we are still leaning to overcome. In this module, the student will critically examine video games and learn practical approaches to game design.
Dynamics and Scripting
This course will introduce students to scripting and its advantages and application in computer graphics through a series of real world problem-solving examples. Students are taught how to manipulate particles and how use a number of applications in the visual effects field to render them, Building from the MEL module, students work in detail on expressions.
Production Project
Students will apply their skills to a final production demonstrating their ability to complete the processes independently.
