1.THE TRAINING
What Do Students Gain?
Building on a foundation of sound Biblical principles, this course facilitates mature and competent counsellors into Christian practice. Deriving from the lecturing staff’s experience, the curriculum has strong academic and practical components. Students gain comprehensive insight into different counselling strategies, while developing the skills to critique these models from a Christian perspective. The aim of the course is to ensure that students’ theological maturity matches their psychological understanding.
What Is Involved?
The Diploma in Counselling is designed not just to educate, but to challenge, inspire and equip Christians for relevant and essential services in churches and the wider community. Students will be equipped to counsel effectively over a wide range of topical issues, including: Depression and suicide, anxiety, addictions, relationship problems, anger, violence and abuse, sexual dysfunction and addiction, working with children.

3.ENTRY CRITERIA
Diploma in Counselling Level 6 – Year 1
- Completed Pastor’s reference
- Applicants must be committed Christians with some life experience and/or relevant ministry experience of which sufficient evidence must be provided as determined by the Course Supervisor, or 21 years of age
- An interview may be required
Diploma in Counselling Level 6 – Year 2
- Approval from the Internship Interview Panel is required.
- Entrance is conditional on the successful completion of the Diploma in Counselling Yr 1

Are Lifeway College’s qualifications NZQA approved?
Yes. Lifeway College is an registered provider the NZQA. All certificate and diploma courses are approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) under the provisions of the Education Act 1989, and Lifeway College is accredited to teach them.
Are students able to access Student Loan and Allowance for Lifeway College’s qualifications?
Yes. Lifeway College is a fully accredited provider and our courses attract both loans and allowances from Studylink for elligible students.
Can I study this course extramurally?
We do not provide this course extramurally.
Is their any other costs associated with this course?
Students are advised to allow $1000/year for course related costs such as books, stationery etc. although this is not compulsory. Items essential for study will be provided.
